Soldiers' and Sailors' Arch

I showed Hartford's Sailors' and Soldiers' Arch last year, but fewer of you were looking at this blog in those days.  It is one of Hartford's iconic images, so I expect that my eye and camera will be drawn to it again.

This was shot a week ago, before the rains came . . .

It's strange to discover such an architecture in USA.. I 'd imagine that kind more in Germany.
I wonder about the story behind..

I agree with Malyss, beautiful shot Jack.

Looks like it should be in a different country. The link has a photo that showcases the intricate carvings. Very nice!!

Quite an impressive arch indeed! I wonder how old she is?

That's pretty impressive - I love the red sandstone (is it?) against all those greens and blues.

Raining here still. "Gentlemen, start your engines... lawnmowers that is."

Love it. Looks like it just pops up in the middle of nowhere.....

That's an interesting and beautiful structure. And the surroundings look so fresh and green.

It looks like it should be attached to a castle, but the rest of the building is missing.

I can understand why it is iconic for Hartford absolute beautiful details.

Now I would not expect to see anything like this in the States well, maybe Disneyland (or The Villages)! I like it, though. Iconic, heh? Like Jack?

Keep swingin'!

Beautiful image. Is there a Soldiers and Sailers home to go with the arch?

What a beautiful place and what a gorgeous day you had -- then!! Superb capture and it does look more like European structures than most in the US. I love it and I love your composition, lovely green and beautiful skies! Perfect! Enjoy your weekend, Jack!

Very beautiful looking arch. And very well maintained, too.

Agree with Mo, it's like a fairy tale castle!

Amazing, it just lacks some walls on the sides!

I'm sure many beautiful shots could come from this location. No one would blame you for posting them all. :)

This looks like something out of a fairytale or from Europe, Jack. Are you sure this isn't a photo you shot in say...the Czech Republic? :)

Not something I would think you would find in the U.S but hey Phoenix has a castle so I guess anything is possible.

Well that is pretty impressive. Shoot it all the different ways you can think of. I think that would be fun to see. BTW, I recycle Paris photos from the early days now and again. Don't breathe a word!!!
