George Washington
Happy birthday to George Washington, who was born on February 22, 1732.
This is one of many portraits of Washington by Gilbert Stuart. It hangs in Hartford's Old State House, in the former chambers of the Connecticut Senate.
You composed this very well...old George would have approved. I think. He was an onery cuss, but overall a good man. He wouldn't think very much of our current politicos; especially those who invoke his name as a "founding father."
Re your smart-alecky comment about needing one more blog: Yeah, it is kind crazy, isn't it? But, here's the thing...I'm gonna kinda, more or less let the others go...with only occasional posts.
And, I'm including "albums" on the new one.
And yes, I'm a little nuts. But I am gonna play golf tomorrow. So that's good, right?
That bright yellow is a rich background for the white trim and the illustrious painting of President Washington. I agree with the Bird that the lecturn is exquisite.
That is a very grand room. This has nothing to do with anything, but I love the yellow wall color.
We decided not to go to the Wadswroth because we would feel deprived that so many of the permanent collection is in storage. They have a nice smattering of great artists - O'Keefee, Hopper and some contemporary works. I wonder how long the renovations will take?
Gosh, Jack...you've outdone yourself! I hope the HDP mgt rewards you nicely. The lighting in this is lovely. I love the feather which draws one's eyes up to the canary yellow walls and Washington's portrait framed between two pillars. L.D. mentioned a good Washinton biography on SDP yesterday. I'm going to have to hunt it down.
Jack, I just left Genie's blog, thinking that she had posted something new since my last visit and read your comment. On you, trousers with a "full break" would look divine!!

An old fashioned place, elegant and sober, with the right portrait watching over!
What a wonderful lecturn image here. Love it more that the background shot.

The room is elegant! I really like the look. Happy birthday, George! It's hard to believe that you'd be 279 years old today!
Look at that room. Absolutely stunning. A great portrait too. Nicely done, Jack.

Very stately looking room. I really like the way the painting and windows are framed with the columns!
Love that yellow, wonderful room. I hope you'll show us more.
I'm used to seeing him. He's on the Washington flag and I'm usually in WA. about twice a year!
Nice shot - love the colours and that wood is beautiful!
What a beautiful, elegant room. And the portrait is grand enough to do it justice.
If today were "George Washington theme day," then you'd get an A++ for his photo! Handsome snap of our first president!
Happy Birthday, George!
What a beautiful wall!
