Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. Happy birthday, Abe!
The Council of War (1868) is exhibited at the New Britain Museum of American Art. The sculptor is John Rogers. We see Lincoln with his Secretary of War, Edward Stanton, and General Ulysses S. Grant, planning the war against the Confederacy.

Certainly a great man who endured troubled times!
God bless you!

I'm reading a book on him now. Amazing man struggling in amazing times.
Not to be confused with our fellow City Daily Photo blogger, Abraham Lincoln.....
Where is this wonderful sculpture? Forgot all about the birthday; thanks for the reminder!
What a wonderful statue of three men doing very serious work. Growing up in Illinois, I was surrounded by Lincoln memorabelia in all shapes and sizes. This one if very nice.
Nice sculpture. It was a shame when Lincoln and Washington's birthdays were bundled (read: diluted) into one national recognition for all presidents' birthdays. I remember creating silhouette artwork of President Lincoln in grade school. Great leader. Unfortunately, I could not get through Doris Kearns Goodwin's biography. If you have recommendations for a different Lincoln book, I'd love to hear them.
Mr. Lincoln's birthplace is just right up the road from my farm. A great historical statue depicted here.
He was a pretty good guy, I think. Happy b-day Abe!
Happy birthday, Honest Abe!
Nice sculpture and great remembrance of his actual birthday... I am one of those who remembers celebrating the birthdays of Lincoln and Washington separately with school activities around each... nice post, Jack
