Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Game

Last weekend the Wounded Warrior Amputee softball team played the county sheriff's office in an
exhibition game in Bonita Springs.

Amputee players fielded their positions smoothly despite wearing prostheses.

This one-armed player got a hit every time.  In the field, he caught the ball,
tossed his glove and ball into the air, caught the ball and fired it in.

The positive attitudes, competitive fire and athletic ability of the Wounded Warriors
were impressive.  Well done, gentlemen.
Thank you for your service.

City Daily Photo bloggers post photographs on a theme on the first day of each month.  On
February 1, they will address this intriguing question:  If you had to leave forever the city
from which you usually post, what would you miss most?

Players like this remind me of the pitching of MLB Jim Abbott. Amazing to do what he did at that skill level. What a story!

Terrific action shots. It's gotten to the point where prosthetics are as good, if not better than the original limbs.

These are great action shots. I'm glad to see these athletes haven't been slowed by their injuries.

Smithsonian magazine had a great article on an amputee who got tired of the shortcomings of prosthetics and has gone on to engineer some that are a real revolution.

Working with the disabled, as I do, I'm not at all surprised by their bravery and inventiveness. Glad they also have the confidence to perform in public, a great role model for all.
