Rachel was sitting on a bench outside The Lady From Haiti, a gallery on Naples' Fifth Avenue South.
She was dressed in brightly colored clothes, so I asked if she was from Haiti. "Yes," she answered, and gave me a handout explaining that this is her mother's store. It has been operating
in Naples for 20 years. The new Fifth Avenue South store opened a month ago.
The story about the beginnings of The Lady From Haiti is on their website.
It is worth reading.

Great story and wonderful portrait.
Nice find, Jack -- and, nice story on their website. Isn't it interesting what you discover when you talk to people? Did you ask her thoughts about Congress member-elect Mia Love from Utah? (Hopefully, Rachel is aware of her.) If their store has been in Naples for 2 decades, they're definitely doing something right!
Lovely story.
Nice portrait. Were the frogs from Haiti too?
Everybody has a story to tell and this one is super cool .Great photos, too.
What a great story they have and what a terrific capture for the day!! Thanks for sharing both, Jack! A wonderful way to start my day -- plus we have blue, blue skies today!! Enjoy your weekend!!
I sure hope all your readers click that link. What a story and what a beautiful girl Rachel is.
I'm just wondering if the two frogs are two charming princes waiting for a kiss from her .. :o)
A delightful portrait, Jack!
I love their story, Jack!
What a great story. I'd enjoy looking in the store. The media coverage for Haiti tends to be pretty depressing over here, all about poverty (isn't it meant to be the poorest country in the world?). We hear little about its colourful culture, so it is very good that someone is celebrating that.
She's lovely.
Rachel is lovely... and I could use her bench on aBoB!
A delightful portrait of a lovely lady!
What a super link Jack, thanks, I enjoyed reading about and seeing this colourful artist and her work. Rachel is a gorgeous subject :)
I just visited The Lady From Haiti's website and agree it was worth reading. Rachel's and her mom's story is a heartwarming one.
I love the story! What beautiful women. I'll bet it's a great shop; glad it's been a success.
now i still need to read the story!
Heartwarming story! Looking at the ladies' smiles and brousing through the store, you can feel the love!
Thank you for sharing.
