Cat in the Hat

Bradley International Airport is midway between Hartford, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts, though it is invariably called "Hartford" at gates and on flight boards.

Springfield is the birthplace of Theodore Geisel, who wrote and illustrated children's books under the name of "Dr. Seuss."  His birthday, March 2, is a nationwide reading celebration.

I flew out of Bradley yesterday -- March 2 -- and was treated to a strolling Seuss character.

Greenhouse

I flew back to Naples yesterday after a weekend to visit my daughter and her family.

Before leaving, I visited Elizabeth Park.  The greenhouse is full of flowering bulbs.

There is an open house and bulb sale next week, with the proceeds going to support the park.

City Hall

The March 1 theme for City Daily Photo bloggers is "municipal building."

Built in 1928 when Naples was barely a fishing village, the current city hall in Everglades City was initially the seat of county government.  When the county seat moved to Naples
 in the early 1960s, the building became the city hall.

Naples City Hall is an uninspired functional building on Eighth Street South in Olde Naples,
across the street from a performance space, tennis courts and an active park.

Two Blue Herons

Two dark blue herons.  The tricolored heron (above) has a white belly, a light stripe up the front of its neck and it has light-colored legs.  The little blue heron is dark blue throughout, including its legs.

A Cattle Egret in Flight

This guy took off.  I had to check a bird book to identify him.  Cattle egrets have shorter bills than other egrets and buff orange on their heads and bellies.
