Governor's Foot Guard

The Governor's Foot Guard was organized in 1771, which makes it the oldest continuously serving military organization in the United States.  Today it has mainly a ceremonial role.  The Guards provide escorts to distinguished visitors and they march in parades.

The building is in an out-of-the-way stretch of High Street in downtown Hartford, a block from U.S. Route 84.

Noah Webster School

The Noah Webster School is an elementary school in the West End of Hartford.  As you can see, it has a gorgeous Tudor-style facade in the oldest part of the school.

Some blogger friends urge me to post more monochrome photos.  In general, I like color, but this one isn't bad in black and white.  For those, like me, who prefer color, the original is below.

Look up on Asylum Street

This is a perplexing pose.  Is he showing how to apply deodorant?  Or doing the chicken dance?  I look forward to reading your interpretations.

Women Soldiers

The Capitol has a maquette of the Vietnam Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C.  The sculptor is Glenna Goodacre.

I'm done with the Connecticut State Capitol for a while.  We'll be back.

Charleston Cross

This was taken on a street in Charleston, South Carolina, one year ago.  He was walking with a purpose.  I really wanted to talk to him.
