Uncommon Friends

While in Fort Myers, I went to see the park along the Caloosahatchee River.  What a disappointment to see that it was blocked off for a purported restoration.  If they are improving it, why are there no signs of activity, and why were no workers there mid-afternoon on a weekday?

It was pretty sad that a disconnected fountain honoring Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone -- all winter residents of Fort Myers in the early 20th century -- was left in a neglected state outside the supposed construction area.

Faena en da Plaza

I went up to Fort Myers briefly after an absence of two years.

Numerous statues by Edgardo Carmona had been placed along First Street in 2016.  The city bought several that remain there.  This is a juggler on a unicycle.

Got it!

A great egret stood still but attentive.  Splash!  He suddenly thrust his neck and head hard into the water.

Success.  A few seconds later the egret maneuvered the fish into position and swallowed it whole.

No time to rest.  He slowly turned and began searching for his next morsel.

Blue

On a quiet afternoon at the Village Shops on Venetian Bay, the blue of the sky, the bay, the umbrellas, the chairs and the table settings of a restaurant grabbed me.  Blue -- my favorite color.

Party Time

A bunch of ibises and their cousin the roseate spoonbill all hung out in shallow water.

Inner Doctors Bay

A big Tuscan-style villa is at one end of a property built into Inner Doctors Bay, next to the Village Shops on Venetian Bay.  I need to meet the owners and wangle an invitation to tour it.
