Abandoned and Falling Apart
Some factories near the center of Georgetown have been closed for decades. They show how changes in market conditions, along with time, weather and vandals can destroy an abandoned structure.
The market economy does put many factories out of business. Not only are these buildings deteriorating, but a whole way of life has changed. That stairway looks like a later addition, perhaps as a safety measure to allow workers to escape a fire?

Back when my dad was a firefighter they sometimes practised on abandoned buildings where it was possible to do so of course.
