Lodge

Naples is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its incorporation.  My friend Lodge first visited his grandmother in Naples when he was one year old -- about 75 years ago -- and he came back regularly from Ohio through his childhood.  When Lodge graduated from college in 1969, he headed down here and never left.  So, Lodge has been here for three quarters of Naples' time as a city.

Lodge has become Naples' informal historian.  Last week I attended a lecture by Lodge about the history of Naples.  It is fascinating to hear about the way a small fishing village at the bottom of the Florida peninsula became the place where the most expensive property in the USA went on the market last week.

I am always surprised at how recent our history is. Fine portrait of your friend, Lodge.
