Fancy Houses






There was a time when Norwich was a wealthy city.  It is less true today, but there are
reminders all over town of the time when the city flew high.

The houses look well cared for, even if the fortunes of the city have declined.

THese are great homes, and it looks like they are being tended, including the ladder from one roof up higher while the one the ladder is on is sagging away!

These houses are large because of wealth, but also because large families were valued. Families averaged about six children in 1860-1900 era. Average family size is now only 2.6 and trending lower as the birth rate continues to fall. Such large houses are no longer common.
