Night Herons
A birder said this is a juvenile BLACK-crowned night heron, and an adult black-crowned night heron was not far away. I looked online and it looks more like a juvenile YELLOW-crowned night heron.
Let's just call it a juvenile night heron.
This one is pretty clearly an adult black-crowned night heron.

You wouldn't think that the juvenile would turn into that adult would you? Neat pics, Jack!
Not a very pretty baby to anyone but a Night Heron.
Ooh, those juveniles are always a bit tricky!
I like the detail on the feathers, with the second shot.
That's one kind of heron we don't see up here.
Juvenile night heron looks very reflective, almost meditative. And I like the look of the adult, too. Nice shots.
