I was reviewing photographs from my trip to
South Africa late last year and came across reflection
photos from Johannesburg's Apartheid Museum. The entrance has full length photos
of South Africans of all ages and ethnicities, cut out and set against mirrors.
It can be hard distinguishing which are live and which are photos.
Linked to Weekend Reflections.
Interesting idea for a museum display. It is tricky to see which is a cutout and which is a real person.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting display and funny shot !
ReplyDeleteI really loved my trips to South Africa. The museums of the history of Apartheid were very sobering, weren't they?
ReplyDeleteGreat capture Jack!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there are museums about apartheid in countries other than South Africa. There are holocaust museums in many countries, quite fittingly, and apartheid was properly a worldwide concern.
ReplyDeletethat is really neat!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great and different post for the day and such an interesting place!! I agree with EG, hard to tell the real from the poster!! Hope you have a great weekend, Jack, do try to stay out of trouble!!!
ReplyDeleteThis certainly creates an interesting effect.
ReplyDeleteQuite a unique effect, Jack!
ReplyDeleteReally hard to say, but you captured very well this effect!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Hard to tell what is there and what is reflection. Image and real blend beautifully.
ReplyDeleteHard to tell indeed, and I can imagine how sobering an experience that museum would be.
ReplyDeletereally neat!
ReplyDeleteWell this is a good puzzle...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great concept! You've done a good job capturing it. A good museum to encourage reflecting - and a good photo for "reflections."
ReplyDeleteYes that is difficult to distinguish the reality from the cut out. Very clever idea for a display.
ReplyDeleteA creative and poignant idea well captured by your camera.
ReplyDeleteSuper shot! Where are you?
ReplyDeleteReminds me of work I saw at the Louvre last summer by Michaelangelo Pistoletto: here is a photo I didn't take but have a similar one http://www.hannahtan.com/journal/2013/09/louvre-is-in-the-air/img_2767/ The mirror paintings were so quirky layed out all over the museum, blending in with the crowds. I only saw the ones on the way to Mona Lisa (just like an American tourist :p)
Fascinating!
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange intallation... Very intriguing indeed !
ReplyDeleteWhat an intriguing picture, Jack!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting shot Jack. WE have some cut outs down around our downtown area where the Civil Rights marches took place.

Really cool idea, which makes such an intriguing photo!
ReplyDeleteExcellent shot Jack, you have to look carefully to see hat's what :) A very bad time in African history that's for sure. When I lived in Central Africa I didn't go to SA once even though it's so beautiful, bad politics!
