Myra Daniels is a legend in southwest Florida. She ran a successful
Chicago advertising agency with her husband, Draper Daniels -- the
inspiration for Mad Men's Don Draper. They retired to nearby
Marco Island in 1979. (You do the math to calculate how old Myra is.)
Draper died five years later, and Myra missed the cultural life of a big city. So, she got to work.
In 1989 Myra founded the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts. Twenty-five years later,
"the Phil" is a $100 million nonprofit organization with a fine symphony orchestra,
an art museum, a blackbox theater and other arts facilities.
Myra retired a second time last year.

You go , girl!! And, she certainly did!
That's quite a resume. Kudos to her. And another nice portrait. Did you take this with your cell phone?
Re your comment on Images: It's amazing. You'll find chandeliers almost everywhere. :)
Amazing what she has achieved. Great portrait and story.
@Lowell, I used my little point-and-shoot so I would be inconspicuous. Myra is a hard person to photograph, because she is always moving (both physically and metaphorically).
Good for her. My father worded as hard at his civic retirement endeavors as most people do at their careers.
I would love to retire just once. Nice shot.
Loved Randy's comment & another great portrait, you get a sense of her energy! I know what it's like to miss the cultural life of the big city, what an inspiring woman.
Oh she looks like she's still got a lot of creativity in her Jack, this won't be the last we'll hear of her :)
What an extraordinary person Myra seems to be. Second retirement - what new adventure is next? You can't really imagine her staying still, can you?
I have much admiration for such entrepreneurial minds, it's so far from what I am.
Wow, that is one very accomplished woman.
She got in a few years what our administators weren't able to get in half a century! Brava Myra!
WOW! What an incredible, amazing and accomplished woman indeed! We could use a lot more like her!! Great post as always, Jack! Hope your week is going well!
I'm not very good at maths but the world needs more Myras!
Every community needs someone like her, Jack!
How lucky for Florida...Myra sounds like a real force for cultural good.
An amazing lady!
Well done to Myra .... what an inspiration.

This is quite interesting. I love Mad Men and Draper reminds me of my father when he was his age. :-)
