Myra Janco Daniels

Myra Daniels is a legend in southwest Florida.  She ran a successful
Chicago advertising agency with her husband, Draper Daniels -- the
inspiration for Mad Men's Don Draper.  They retired to nearby
Marco Island in 1979.  (You do the math to calculate how old Myra is.)

Draper died five years later, and Myra missed the cultural life of a big city.  So, she got to work.
In 1989 Myra founded the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts.  Twenty-five years later,
"the Phil" is a $100 million nonprofit organization with a fine symphony orchestra,
an art museum, a blackbox theater and other arts facilities.
Myra retired a second time last year.

  2. That's quite a resume. Kudos to her. And another nice portrait. Did you take this with your cell phone?

Re your comment on Images: It's amazing. You'll find chandeliers almost everywhere. :)

  4. @Lowell, I used my little point-and-shoot so I would be inconspicuous. Myra is a hard person to photograph, because she is always moving (both physically and metaphorically).

  5. Good for her. My father worded as hard at his civic retirement endeavors as most people do at their careers.

  9. What an extraordinary person Myra seems to be. Second retirement - what new adventure is next? You can't really imagine her staying still, can you?

I have much admiration for such entrepreneurial minds, it's so far from what I am.
