This impressive stone wall was erected about a decade ago. By contrast with the homely hand-made stone walls shown two days ago, this wall was erected by professional masons who labored over it for a couple of months.
Now, I don't want to come across as too opinionated here, but I have never understood the logic of this asymmetric and wavy wall. It stands in front of a very large and formal 100-year old house made of the same stone. They certainly could use a wall for sound protection; the house is on a busy street with heavy traffic. But, THIS wall?
I must lack imagination.
My favorite is this one, I love the beautiful landscape around!

Okay so it doesn't shield them from the noise of the street but I quite like the design. Like waves.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I understand it either, but I kind of like it.
ReplyDeleteI like the wall, it's very visually appealing with the curves and waves. But you're probably right, it does not serve the practical purpose of keeping out noise or the prying eyes of nosy neighbors!
ReplyDeleteIt's a stone wall and that makes it OK in my opinion. But I agree, it looks rather dumb.
ReplyDeleteInteresting... maybe it was commissioned by an artist.
ReplyDeleteI like the asymmetry if it's higher at the entrance to the driveway (to accommodate a gate or lightpost or some decoration) and tapers to a lower level from that point. But that one seems random.
ReplyDeletePersonally, my favorites are the old ones deep in the woods (that used to be open farmland).
Nice but I like yesterdays more.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed this series on stone walls. All the variations stimulate the senses and the frontal cortex.
ReplyDeleteIt is not bad and it is well made, but what's the scope? Decoration? Boundaries?
ReplyDeleteLove all these stone walls. We have so little stone here they are a treat to see!
