Lounsbury House

Lounsbury House was built on Main Street in Ridgefield in 1893 by then-Governor Phineas C. Lounsbury.  It is a replica of the Connecticut State Building at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.

Today it is owned by the Town Of Ridgefield and operated as a nonprofit.
The Lounsbury House is a popular venue for weddings and other celebrations.

High Ridge

High Ridge is, as the name indicates, a road along a high ridge that runs parallel to Ridgefield's Main Street.  It is a posh street, mainly on the western side, though these houses on
the eastern side also look good with a fresh gown of snow.

Winter Storm Abel

The first snow storm of the season was much less exciting in the southwest corner of Connecticut than it was inland and east.  Still, it left some beauty.

A row of cat-n-nine-tails.

And icicles on a rhododendron.

Frozen 2

I am taking care of two pre-school girls while their mother (my daughter) works and tries to find the next babysitter.  It snowed Sunday night so yesterday was a "snow day," meaning I had to keep them occupied all day long, not just after school.  So, Frozen 2 at the local theater did much of the job.

West Hartford Art League

A big white female head stands on the grounds of the West Hartford Art League, along with colorful murals high on the wall behind it.  (See Monday Mural for more murals.)

Ordinarily I would be back in sunny Florida after Thanksgiving, but my daughter lost her babysitter so I will be up in chilly Connecticut for two more weeks to help while she finds a replacement.

Sol Lewitt at the Wadsworth Atheneum

Hartford-born artist Sol Lewitt grew up in nearby New Britain.  He is celebrated as the founder of conceptualism, an art form that holds that it is the idea that is important, not the rendering itself.  Painted directly on the walls by studio assistants, according to specific instructions from the artist, this wall “drawing” was designed for the space in Hartford's art museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum.

The curved bands of alternating color blocks play off of arches and various swirls and circles in the ceiling, walls, and balustrade. The entrance of the museum and a stairwell also exhibit
colorful Lewitt works.

The December theme for bloggers in the City Daily Photo community is "Rainbow."
