A Hovering Osprey

 

A male osprey hovered over the bay, studying the water, before swooping down in a failed attempt to grab a fish.

Jack, what an impressive Osprey photo. You caught this bird at exactly the right moment.

What a dynamic photo! Looking forward to their arrival up north in a few weeks. (Note: As a birder, I'm pretty sure adult Osprey males and females cannot be distinguished.)

Fred, that is not correct. Female ospreys have what is called a "necklace," meaning brown feathers above their chest. Males either have no necklace or a very faint necklace.
