Sculpture on the Front Lawn

The front lawn of the Wadsworth Atheneum exhibits four pieces with completely different styles, one 19th century classical, one mid-20th century modern and two very new contemporary works.

One of the two contemporary works added last year is "30" by Irish American artist Sean Scully, a colorful stack of square metal plates painted with automotive paint. A Scully exhibit just finished.

The other three front lawn works are (nearest) "Monolith," a see-through 2016 steel work by the English artist Conrad Shawcross, "Amaryllis," a 1965 painted black sculpture by American artist Tony Smith, and Enoch Smith Woods' 1895 bronze statue of Connecticut patriot, Nathan Hale.
