A new and fancier building on Naples' main street is taking shape. Unfortunately, it replaces some of the small one-story buildings that added character. But, developers aren't done yet.
Now there is a big hole in the ground next door.
I am not opposed to development. Many times it is an improvement. I am just sad to see the smaller and quirkier buildings that housed local shops and restaurants being replaced with new buildings a bit too grand, uniform and big for the street, and that price out the little guys. An eclectic mix was nicer.
Change... it is happening everywhere.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
ReplyDeleteI tend to have a particularly low opinion of developers, from personal experience. Their word is worthless unless proven otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Jack!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Is historic preservation much of a force in your area?
ReplyDeleteChange isn't always bad but rampant gentrification can eliminate affordable housing and drive out small business.
