Vote Luke

Luke Bronin will be elected mayor of Hartford tomorrow.  (The Democratic nominee always wins.)  Bronin might be the first Hartford mayor in years who is competent and honest.  The outgoing mayor is a nice but incompetent guy who became mayor when his predecessor, a competent but dishonest guy, faced bribery and corruption charges.  (He was convicted and is appealing.)

Bronin is only 36 years old, but he has already served as chief of staff to the CEO of one of Hartford's biggest insurance companies, then Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S.Treasury responsible for fighting money laundering, and then chief of staff to the current governor of Connecticut.

Best of luck, Luke.  I am optimistic.

  1. It's nice when you can say a politician is both honest and competent!

  3. They all seem to change when they get elected. Some for the better and some for the worst.

  4. I sure hope he's as honest as you say. Politicians have such a lousy image at the moment, and it sure would be nice if that changed for the better!

  5. Wow, that is a lot of great experience for someone only 33 years old. I wish him the best of luck in the new job.

  6. It seems you have tried all the combinations. We still haven't...

  7. The only thing I know with any degree of certainty is that no one in their right mind would put this on their front lawn here... or buy bumper stickers (unless of course they are for Obama or any other American Democrat). Yes, that's it. We had Obama bumper stickers in 08 and 12 but you'd never see one for a French candidate...

  8. Sad that competent and honest politicians seem so few.

  9. There's not many good and honest politicians. Hope he wins.

  10. Having had just gotten rid of our last PM here, I can say it felt like a relief. The current mayor here's bland but competent. The previous mayor was totally incompetent, and even stood trial on electoral fraud charges (managed to get off on that, but pretty much killed his chances at getting re-elected).

  11. It seems to be the same everywhere, Jack! It certainly takes away any confidence you may have in gov't. I hope the new guy is a good one!

  13. Well, at least there was one who has been convicted! In this country most of them should be behind bars but they're free and we keep seeing their shameless faces everywhere.
