An odd seasonal sign, to be sure. In the south-west of England winter visitors are known as Grockles, from the dialect name for Starlings. I hope that Snowbirds are less troublesome than Starlings.
A migration indeed. I'm reminded of a friend of my parents who spent his working life driving that kind of truck, between the car factories and dealerships.
My great Aunt lived in Brigantine, NJ and they would load the car on a train to Florida and then ride the train themselves in luxury. It always sounded so elegant to me.
my grandparents travelled most of the year in their rv but really couldn't be considered "snow birds" being from san diego haha but we'd go visit them when they'd end up in NM or AZ and met lots of their snowbird friends!
When you start hearing more emergency sirens and encountering more road closures due to serious car crashes you know….The Snowbirds are Back! The Snowbirds are Back!

ReplyDeleteReally?! Transporting rather than driving? Road trips are half the fun!

ReplyDeleteMore fun to drive, I would have thought, so long as you make a holiday out of it. I suppose it's tiring and not everyone is capable of it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that...
ReplyDeleteThis is news to me! I'm constantly surprised by what I learn blogging! ;)
ReplyDeleteI saw an interesting bumper sticker in Arizona years ago: "Snowbirds. The other white meat." Didn't strike me as particularly welcoming.
