Out of the Jurisdiction: Normandy American Cemetery


The Normandy American Cemetery is above Omaha Beach, one of the four Norman beaches where the Allied forces landed in stormy weather on June 6, 1944.  It is a moving experience to visit the beach and the remaining battlements, the museum, and the thousands of graves.



9238 soldiers' graves are marked by white marble crosses and 149 by Stars of David.
It is an emotional sight.  I choked back tears at least a dozen times.

    I can understand your feelings. So many young men died fighting true evil for us.

    Ah, such moving, heartbreaking sight and sobering it is indeed! I would have been in tears as well -- actually, I am even as I type! I was a very young girl in 1944, but I do remember the day as if it were yesterday!!

    So moving. I felt the same when I visited the WWI cemetery in Belgium.

    One of my mother's sisters lost her fiancee on D-Day. He might be buried here. Still the killing goes on. It's incomprehensible.
