Many captains of the ships going up and down the Seine retire to Conflans. They buy old barges
and fix them up as houseboats, then dock them along the Conflans waterfront.
There might be a hundred of them.
There is a public park on the hillside above Conflans, on the grounds of a former estate,
the Serre du Chateaux du Prieuré.
When I visited the chateau, this sweet couple was celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary!!!
No typo. 70 years. They were married in 1945.
Another great set of images. The portrait is so full of charm!

You have been on a marvelous trip and have provided us with a plethora of marvelous images. Thank you for sharing. Can't imagine being married for 70 years, although I hope I make it - just 11 1/2 left!
ReplyDeleteThanks, too, for your comments yesterday. Much appreciated.
Wow, 70 years! Good for them!
ReplyDeleteWOW! 70 years!! And they still appear to like each other! ;))
ReplyDeletethe boats remind me of a scene from chocolat....70 years, that's impressive, especially since they barely even look like they could be 70!
ReplyDelete70 years and they look so happy! A wonderful model for couples who may be experiencing times of stress; it can be done and done well! House boats: I have always had a fantasy of spending a summer on one of them after reading Mort Rosenblum's "The Secret Life of the Seine."
ReplyDeleteThanks for introducing me to Conflans - lovely photos. And an especially beautiful portrait photo of the charming couple celebrating 70 years of marriage. Perhaps they should write a book!
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is too, too pretty and your last portrait is as Harriet above observed, tres charming.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos for the day, as always and, the last shot is delightful and they surely don't look THAT old!! Wonderful!! Hope your week is going well, Jack!!
ReplyDelete70 years, quite a mark! The chateau really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteThose look like happy people, Jack! What a lovely area that is.
ReplyDeleteYou must be an easy traveller since you are on the road so much especially this year! I find it so stressful getting prepared to leave things behind and get trip details organized. I'm looking forward to more "out of the jurisdiction' pics. ;-)
Wow! 70 years is a real milestone. Looks like a wonderful village to get lost in.
ReplyDeleteGreat place to explore.
ReplyDeleteWhat can I add that hasn't already been said about a 70 year milestone? They both look as if the years have treated them well and perhaps that's how they've treated each other. Nice portrait.
Gosh, they don't look old enough do they?
ReplyDeleteI sometimes think I'd like to live on a houseboat - but then I don't know why, as I hate being on most kinds of boats!
Wow! Nice photo of them!
