Mark Howard

A large granite pyramid in Cedar Hill Cemetery is the memorial for Mark Howard,
a prominent insurance executive in the middle of the 19th century.
(Hey, this is Hartford, the country's insurance capital!)


On either side of the doorway are inverted torches, symbolizing the extinguishment of life.
The July theme for City Daily Photo bloggers is "upside down."
(Sorry if this interpretation if a downer.)

    Very impressive, but I'm not sure an angel is a "correct" representation for an insurance person! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

    The whole structure is imposing, and I find the subtlety of the position of the torches somewhat surprising.

    Yep, you are a clever one indeed and great shots for the day!! Like Lowell, I do have a little trouble connecting "insurance men" and angels, but what the heck, it's a beautiful place!!
