Palmettos and I do not get along very well -- they are fiendish machines
for swallowing golf balls and lacerating hands that reach into them
to retrieve those balls -- but this backlit one was pretty.
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is operated by the Audubon Society.
It has more than two miles of boardwalks.
It has more than two miles of boardwalks.
OK, I am admittedly weird on this point, but the bark of a pine tree sometimes fascinates me.
A great blue heron shared a log with an alligator. Not smart, bird.
Looking up.
A little blue heron.
Some old growth cypress trees in the sanctuary are more than 500 years old.
Nice photos Jack. This is a part of Florida that I have not seen in person.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots Jack.
ReplyDeleteThe alligator is a nice find in the shot, makes the whole scene look very dangerous. :) Great light in these, love the second shot as well, with the great path way.

There's a mood of adventure in your pictures , like if you were exploring some uknown part of the world..
ReplyDeleteSorry Palmettos are not very kind to you, Jack! I don't think it's strange at all that you like to photograph pine bark. ;)
ReplyDeleteVery good environmental shots.
ReplyDeleteI loved the trip through the sanctuary. That photo with the alligator and bird is priceless!
ReplyDeleteLike the way you documented this swamp. The light is great, and I would watch for gators. Where you see one the daddy gator can't be far away.
ReplyDeleteMy dog and I would like to walk there with you.
ReplyDeleteWe have been out walking along the beach / The north sea. Sunny and +6C.
So you really have to watch where you walk in that swamp! Very pretty though.
ReplyDeleteWhat terrific, different pics for the day, Jack!! I love them all and particularly the heron and the alligator!! Hope your week is going well!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the heron knows the gator ate that heron he doesn't like yesterday, so he knows the gator won't be hungry for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the material your trees
ReplyDeleteBuy a pair of gloves will you!
ReplyDeleteWonderful collection. Alligator shot is priceless.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful pictures Jack and a good way to show what the real Florida looks like. I know what you mean about the palmettos, but that first shot is nice! Love the picture of the alligator and the heron too.
ReplyDeleteI like the light in the first shot.
ReplyDeleteMy parents have a similar sanctuary near their home in FL. Always nice to wander along those boardwalks. Kind of funny to see the Heron and Alligator together.
ReplyDeleteI am late in getting you an update on the girl of the house. In 8th grade and now playing some high school softball. Looking forward to a busy schedule. Her growth will soon make me the shortest one in the house.
beautiful swap photos
ReplyDeleteI would love to walk this boardwalk.
ReplyDeleteYou're not weird Jack, tree trunks ARE fascinating, or maybe I'm weird too.. Nah! That's not possible :) super series of shots.
ReplyDeleteI so love this place, Jack! It was such a wonderful experience to see the Wood Storks. Thanks for showing it!
ReplyDeleteI love these shots and the environment is so different from these parts. (I'm glad you were able to make temporary peace with the palmetto. It rewarded your truce.)
