The annual Edison Festival of Light 5K race was run yesterday along the riverfront in Fort Myers.
Number 1 led from the start.
Update: Thanks to John (below) and the local newspaper, the winner was
Eliud Ngetich from Kenya, whose time was a fraction of a second under 14 minutes.)

Many runners wear costumes. No, I don't know why.
And the people in the crowd can be interesting. And cute.
Great photos of the event, Jack. A little research unearthed the fact that No 1 is Eliud Ngetich from Kenya and you can read about him here:

Fun shots of this event. For some reason, the photo of the winner made me think of that movie from years ago "The Gods Must Be Crazy".
ReplyDeleteYou do indeed take the most terrific pics, Jack!! I always look forward to your post every day to see what and who you're going to share with us and I'm never disappointed and always in awe!! Quite a colorful event!! Love the facial expressions!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great event, Jack, and I guess it wasn't too hot this year.
ReplyDeleteI think I would enjoy this event very much!
ReplyDeleteNice captures of the enthusiasm and determination!
ReplyDeleteTerrific action shots, and I got a kick out of Batgirl!
ReplyDeleteNice to be in a place where this is possible in February. Number 2 is a great pan shot.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeleteI like that last portrait !
ReplyDeleteNice to see such a big turnout.
ReplyDeleteI would never try to pass a youngster at the finish line Jack, it would finish me :) super set of shots here.
ReplyDeleteSome of those strides are amazing.
ReplyDelete(But I admit it: the little kitty in the last shot is my favorite.)
The Festival of LIghts 5K has become quite a big event. I ran it once several years ago and vowed never to participate again. The organizers and volunteers were rude, unfriendly and not interested in making it a fun event for the non-competitive average Joe. I used to run a lot of 5Ks…and, that one was the worst. Ever.
