Actually the instructions are pretty clear, but sometimes we "fail" — so glad that they take charge cards. But, I suppose that will be the next thing hacked. It happened to us once, last year in Santa Fe; it was a nightmare getting it in order with a new card. Oh, bother!!
Ah, yes!! These days I try never to leave the house without my glasses!! Hmmm the older I get, the more complicated the world gets. I do hope I haven't started saying "thank you" to cash machines yet!! Probably won't be long though!!!
Having only this morning got the worst of an argument with a particularly recalcitrant self-checkout facility in my local supermarket, these people have my sympathy and support. I've certainly never said "Thank you" to a machine though I've often muttered other things.
I encountered a number of these "sophisticated" parking machines in various cities. The frustrating part was that they all had DIFFERENT instructions. Some you took the ticket with you; others it had to be placed on the dashboard or stuck to the inside of the passenger window (I'm not making that up). It seems that this is one thing that could be standardized (like the old parking meters!)
We completely embarrassed ourselves in Seattle last February when we parked and walked off without paying heed to one of these units. Its human component slapped us with a $40 ticket. You can be sure I quickly learned the ropes the next time we went to the big city...
ugh yes, i miss the old meters where, if lucky, there was still some time left from the previous person. in the netherlands you have to give your licenseplate while paying. very annoying as you walk all the way to the meter and then forgot the plate...
Once , I saw an old lady saying "thank you" to a cash machine .It's not easy for old people to follow the run of "progress"..

ReplyDeleteA very common sight these days. It is like going to different bank machine and trying to figure it out while a line-up forms behind you!
ReplyDeleteWe have them on the railyard and they confuse the heck out of folks. I find if you just read the prompts it works fine.

ReplyDeleteParking costs are no longer paid with pocket change as prices rises. It now takes credit cards or pay pal accounts requiring on-line connectivity.
