Peterhof is an achingly beautiful palace begun under Peter the Great in the early 1700s.
It is outside St. Petersburg, on the Gulf of Finland.
Peterhof was leveled to the ground in WWII. It has been rebuilt from the ground up.
The fountains are turned on from 11 to 5.

For most of the two weeks in Russia, the weather was cool to cold, overcast or rainy.
But, the sun came out for the Peterhof visit. Good timing.

Well, they do say it's the Russian Versailles, don't they?
That is sooo beautiful, Jack!
It is magnificent, Jack!
Jack, love what you have done with your summer cottage. The fountains are perfect.
Beautiful.
Didn't have digital cameras when I was there. Your description as being "achingly beautiful" is so right! The mechanism of the fountains was explained to us and like everything else there, it's a marvel.
WOW! Absolutely gorgeous! I've never been there, but everytime I see photos of St. Petersburg, I'm in awe and these shots just show why.
Spectacular. Fountains always look better with a little sun to make them sparkle.
Wow, wow, WOW! I think I agree with your assessment. It looks like a massive fairy tale vision.
A side of Russia i've not seen. Thanks for this Jack.
