Naples Pier juts 1,000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico.
It was built in 1888 and rebuilt multiple times after a 1922 fire and three later hurricanes.

Rails once ran down the pier to move luggage and passengers from ships to shore.
Nice. I could feel the heat emitting from you photos. Just what a winter Northern like me needs.
ReplyDeleteHard to imagine as we brace here for yet another winter storm and hopefully the last.
ReplyDeleteNice day for it. Everyone is having a good time.
ReplyDeleteAlready hot and crowdy on your side of the world!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why, but I really love your last picture! :o)
Looks like a party! Nice shots Jack.
ReplyDeleteRails on a pier was quite a luxury. Did the city fathers ever hear of exercise being good for the body, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteI think I should move to Naples. Still cold here in CT. Nice photos!
ReplyDeleteSpent many happy hours on or near that pier. Got some great sunsets, too, by catching the sun as it goes down over the end of the pier.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what motivated you to take that last picture of people on the pier?
I hope none of the visitors encounter a hook on a line being cast from the pier.
ReplyDeleteLooks like summer! I wonder what luck those fishermen have.
ReplyDeleteSummery captures for the day, Jack! I do love all of that sunshine!! Oh, by the way, love that last capture -- nothing like contrast!! And I notice that it didn't need any descriptive words from you! You do make my morning!!!
ReplyDeleteI knew that Lowell would like your last pic - he's into fishing! ;-)
ReplyDeleteA very interesting mix of people here!
ReplyDeleteI love piers. This one is pretty cool, especially in the top shot. Great composition.
ReplyDeleteWe do not have piers like these, and looking at your pictures I think it is a shame!
ReplyDeleteI'm holding my hands up to my computer screen to catch a little of that warmth...I can almost smell the sunscreen. By my standards that's a lot of humanity in one place.
ReplyDeleteMalyss and Lowell said it before I could!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to refrain from saying certain things here lest I should shock your readers... It is a lovely pier though!
ReplyDeleteGiven our cold spring, I would love to walk on that warm pier. Fun photos.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice pier! I grew up in Jacksonville Beach and we would walk to the pier from our house. Great memories!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a popular spot for many people!
ReplyDeleteIt's packed with sun lovers.
ReplyDeleteThat last one is a fabulous sampling of the human zoo.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about different coastlines that differentiate one from another. I looked at the picture and just knew it wasn't the west coast. Funny, don't you think? Enjoying the sun instead of the cold?
ReplyDeleteWonderful sunny images. Love the color of the water. So bright.

Yes I agree with Bob, its when you take crowd shots like this that you realise how different we all are. Looks like the pier is a big drawcard Jack.
