Bus Shelter

The West Hartford Art League commissioned artists to paint ten glass bus shelters to celebrate the Art League's tenth year of bringing art into the community.  The shelter murals were finished last month.

This shelter is in the center of West Hartford.  Hartford's central bus station -- depicted here as it looked in 1927 -- is 3.5 miles east of here.  A bus ride from Hartford to West Hartford Center takes 20 minutes.

MBK Murals are two young artists from Willimantic who started as graffiti artists and now have a busy practice painting murals around central and eastern Connecticut.

This post is linked to Monday Mural.

  2. How interesting the mural artists started out as graffiti artists. So graffiti can actually lead to something positive?

  3. Very nice! I wonder, though, why the mural faces the street so if you're in the shelter you can't see the bus arriving. Must be a Connecticut Yankee thing! :)

  6. That mural is so defined and detailed it almost looks like a vintage photograph.

  7. We have many bus stops painted here also Jack and the funny thing is that they never seem to get tagged..is that the same where you are? It seems like a bit of a 'respect' among artists kind of thing!

  8. That is so interesting and great paintings! It is indeed interesting and great that they've turned their talents into a business! These certainly look better than most of the bus stops here in Portland!! Great capture as always! Enjoy your week, Jack!

  13. The artwork is fantastic but I think what I love the most about this shot is that charming lady with her walking stick and trainers. Super!

  14. That is so much nicer than plastering the bus stop with advertisements!

  15. So good to read there can be life after graffiti and doing more enduring art at that! It's nice to have some visual history here ad there.

  17. A sign of their talent that they can do more than graffiti art! I love that idea of depicting that long-ago scene for the bus stop.
