Pix that might not have carried a post all by themselves.
Skateboarders were practicing their moves when I came across them. One young man skated alongside, making a video of the action. They seemed preoccupied, so I didn't interrupt to ask about the video.
An "honor" farm stand in Eastern Connecticut.
Franklinias are uncommon, especially as far north as Connecticut. They bloom in late August and into September. Mine is brittle. It keeps losing trunks and limbs, but it restarts from suckers.
Franklinia were discovered at one remote location in Georgia in the 1790s. A Philadelphia seedsman gathered seeds just in time, because they became extinct in the wild within a decade. All existing Franklinia derive from those seeds.
My friend Monique has a very nice small specimen Franklinia in her garden.
ReplyDeleteThe Franklinias are interesting. I've never heard of them, but I have never lived as far SOUTH as Connecticut. :))
ReplyDeleteIn small towns the 'honor system' works. It's Americana.
ReplyDeleteGreat timing on the skater shot, Jack! There's a skate part near my house and I never went there with my camera...
ReplyDeleteGreat set of images Jack!
ReplyDeleteThat skateboarding shot is probably going to end up on another blog I know! I wouldn't mind doing a bit of plant shopping!
ReplyDeleteThat skater shot is perfect timing and I'm struck by the fancy equipment that young man is using for filming. I also learned something new in this post about the Franklinia. I had never heard of this plant and now I know it's history. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGreat timing indeed on the skateboarding shot, Jack! I hadn't heard of Franklinias either and what a lovely capture! Hope you've had a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat action shot and I see two benches in background!
ReplyDeleteThe skaters shot is unique, perfect timing.
ReplyDeleteThe skaters look like they are having a great time. I just saw security holding a couple of skate boards on the dockside from a couple of kids who wanted to take them on a cruise. Nope, sorry, no skate boards on deck! The guys will be able to reclaim their skate boards as they leave the ship at the end of the cruise.
ReplyDeleteFranklinia probably grows in California but I don't know that I've seen it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like that bench has seen its share of skateboarders. Nice action shot!
Nice shots!
ReplyDeletei was surprised to see the honor system in the netherlands too, recently!
ReplyDeleteI love the honor farm idea and shot - our old London haunt was by the Southbank skate park and I didn't even think to post my recent photos of it, duh - love your action shot!
ReplyDeleteWe have the "honor system" around here as well. It always gives me the feeling that there is still innate goodness alive and kickin'.
ReplyDeleteLove that farm stand.
ReplyDeleteHere we go again Jack. Tomorrow...you guessed it!
ReplyDeleteLove your action shot.

We never had such tools, did we? Although I did have an old school skateboard when I was 13 or 14, much to my peril.
ReplyDeleteAm enjoying all three of these shots. You covered action, social commentary, and esoteric flora. Impressive. There are trailers all over town with fresh sweet corn in them, and a cash box on a chain on the honor system. It's not all that rare around here.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comment on my post today. Mostly I try to find something that interests me to post.
Super skating shot Jack..love the idea that there are still places where the honour' system still works :)
