West Farms Mall is a large covered shopping mall at the intersection of Farmington, West Hartford and New Britain.
Alphabet Spire VI is a 28-foot high sculpture by William Crutchfield. It has stood outside the J. C. Penney store since West Farms opened in 1974.
It has? I've honestly never noticed but in the past ten years I bet I can count the number of times I've been to the mall on one hand. No nurseries there.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI've shopped there many times, but never had my camera with me. Now I have another reason to shop there, besides going to the Apple Store. ;) Nice picture!
ReplyDeleteAwesome piece.
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot!
ReplyDeleteDifferent and I like it! Great composition, Jack! Hope your weekend is going well!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun piece! I like it. I wonder what that handle on the side represents.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent! I like all the interlocking.
ReplyDeleteWOW that's pretty cool
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic!
ReplyDeleteLa Tour Eiffel knock off.
ReplyDeleteV
Pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteIt's in great condition after nearly 49 years. It makes me wonder where Alphabet Spires I to V are located.
ReplyDeleteWhether by the artist or the mall wasn't clear, but if I recall correctly it's an homage to local resident Noah Webster and his Blue Back Speller.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking good for its age! I love displays like this, really livens up an otherwise typical day at the mall.
ReplyDeleteSort of a Tower of Babel. Will its meaning change when JC Penny goes under?
ReplyDeleteSo creative composition and your picture is fabulous!

ReplyDeleteShaped like the Eiffel Tower!
