New Britain Post Office
So many New England post offices seem to be in classical art deco buildings from the 1930s. This is the entrance to the Post Office building in New Britain.
Long live the art deco style, thank goodness so much has been preserved. We have an amazing amount here in Perth also..really like it a lot. Super detail here Jack
Great, detailed capture, Jack! Wonderful old building and I love the classical style and the detail. We don't see too much of that here in the northwest. Have a great weekend!
I bet stamps cost 1, 2 or 3 cents each back then. I wonder where the government found the money to build these beautiful buildings. Just wondering, Jack. I don't need an answer. :))
We don't have post offices like this one in Haninge. The question is if we have any at all!
ReplyDeleteDad pounded the pavement of the West End here for 35 years, helping Uncle Sam get the letters out.
ReplyDeleteAmazing angle in this picture, really wonderful and I love the eagle detail!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend,
hugs

Historically, post offices, banks, and Carnegie libraries had marvelous architecture.
ReplyDeleteThey don't make them like that any more. In fact, like Stefan says, they simply don't make them any more, over here.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder the price of stamps keeps climbing!

ReplyDeleteI would call this very elegant.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a building mostly influenced by the ancient Greeks. Fine looking eagle carving.
ReplyDeleteI love the style of the building and I love your shot, Jack!
ReplyDeleteIncredible attention to detail.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was also a letter carrier, the bulk of his working life, up to retirement.
What wonderful details.
ReplyDeleteWell done, nice details. The eagle is a very recurrent motif.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful detail, very elegant, we don't have such post officies here...
ReplyDeleteLove the eagle.
