Andy Warhol's 1964 image of Jackie Kennedy is very popular. The blue version is an original signed Warhol silkscreen in the modern art galleries of the Wadsworth Atheneum. The red one is probably a reproduction. It decorates the walls of the Pond House restaurant in Elizabeth Park.
The label at the Atheneum says that Warhol's choice of the famously stylish and infamously tragic former First Lady combines two of the artist's enduring themes -- fame and tragedy.
I've always loved Warhol's works. :)
ReplyDeleteShe had STYLE!
ReplyDeleteAnd the artwork is great.
love both of these shots.
ReplyDeleteLove them both but, I think I like the red better. That said, you two photos are both gorgeous. I love the way you framed both of them.
ReplyDeleteShe was certainly a style icon for her time. The theme of fame and tragedy would suit so many these days, Princess Di, Amy Winehouse,Heath Ledger to name but a few. Warhol had such a distinctive style, I like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI love the series of Warhol's famous people paintings, but have only seen one original in person: Judy Garland.
ReplyDeleteOver the years I've learned to appreciate Warhol's work. Haven't seen this one often. He had a knack of using images that preserve our quintessential memories of the person portrayed. I like your juxtaposition of the portrait with the void of the open doorway.
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures! She was indeed a sad and amazing lady! And she surely does fit Warhol's themes of fame and tragedy! Hope your week is going well, Jack!
ReplyDeleteI will admit I"ve not seen this portrait but I love it. Nice composition in the top one especially Jack. How fun that you found another.
ReplyDeleteV
PS And i agree that the Pompidou is better from the inside out!
Amongst other things, to me she was the epitome of elegance. That's shallow, I know...
ReplyDeleteOh I would love to see a Warhol in person, but for now I am glad I can see them through your great photos.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Nice ones, Jack. I especially like your top pic.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like Jackie when she was younger, before tragedy struck and before she began cruising the Med with Ari.
ReplyDeleteWarhol knew how to capture the essence of whatever he painted.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful portrait despite the un-Jackie like blue eye shadow. Poetic license?
ReplyDeleteI love Warhol too!
ReplyDeleteBoth Warhol and Jackie were icons of the 1960s. The portrait is excellent, and the original and reproduction are both fun and easy to look at.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of what you think of Warhol, there is such beautiful balance, composition and warm color in photo. Like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures!
ReplyDeleteLove Warhol's works!
And this one is beautiful in blue or in red!
... and a bench!
ReplyDeleteShe was classic and classy!
ReplyDeleteI have always enjoyed Warhol's images. Fame and tragedy seem to have followed Jackie around during her entire life. Despite all the privilege and glamour, I think that I prefer my life to hers.
