Kabbalah

This attention-getting building is on Albany Avenue in Hartford's North End.  I don't know a thing about it.

Does this count as a mural?  I don't know that, either.  To see other real murals, click here.

  1. Clearly there is no homeowners' association with an architectural control committee that has to approve the paint color for homes in this neighborhood. The diversity is refreshing.

  2. Very colorful. Why is the map of Africa part of the decor?

  4. This is wild. Kabbalah is Jewish mysticism. The building in the back says "Tikkun Olam," which means "Heal the world."

You've got something here, Jack. Better check it out!

  16. It counts if you decide it counts. Wiki tells me that "tikkun olam" is a Hebrew phrase that means "repairing the world" (or "healing and restoring the world"). And I know that Kabbalah (yes, Madonna practices this philosophy) is a old mystical tradition in Judaism. Now, why Africa is featured on the cafe, I don't know. But I think you should find out and report back to us. In the meantime, I thank you for contributing to Monday Mural.

  19. It's a community center with regular events. It has a map of Africa on it because it's a statement of pride. There's a beautiful rock garden in the back.
