L.A. Kings Win the Stanley Cup!

What?  Why is a Connecticut blog featuring the Los Angeles team's victory in the National Hockey League championship?

Because the most valuable player of the series was 26-year old Jonathan Quick, the Kings' goaltender and a local man!  Quick grew up in Hamden, Connecticut, a town south of Hartford, on the way to New Haven.  He attended Avon Old Farms School, just west of Hartford.  The Avon Old Farms hockey rink where Quick played for two years is the brick building at the top right of this photo.

In this year's playoffs, Quick had three shutouts and allowed only 29 goals in 20 playoff games.  Congratulations, Jon.

  6. My older son played hockey and when I see your pic of the brick building, all I can see are the hours and hours, and dark mornings and nights Jon's parents spent in that building for his dream to be realized. Way to go LA Kings!

  9. He was great through the whole playoff season! Certainly deserved the Conn Smythe trophy as MVP.

  10. I'm glad the Stanley Cup is finally over. Just so I don't have to hear about it anymore. :)
Nice that a local boy was on the winning team. That does make the sport a little more interesting.
