Women Soldiers

The Capitol has a maquette of the Vietnam Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C.  The sculptor is Glenna Goodacre.

I'm done with the Connecticut State Capitol for a while.  We'll be back.

  1. The sculptor certainly captured the emotion.

  2. A tragic but tender moment captured very well by the sculptor. I used images like this one with poems written by nurses who tended the dying during my Vietnam unit when I was still teaching. Hard for me as a young adult, wife and new mother during the Vietnam era. I think the students preferred the protest songs, tho.

  3. Such excellent sculptures. In Vietnam, women served mainly in the supply and medical end of things, but there services were vital.

  4. Yes, I know, that last sentence should end with "their services..." Sheesh! You didn't have to yell at me!

  12. I wasn't familiar with this sculpture. Women's contributions to such events tend to get overlooked so it is wonderful to see this!

  16. And it was a very good series. I enjoyed it.

How times change. A contemporary memorial to women soldiers might depict them in full battle gear in the mountains of Afghanastan.

  17. The sculpture is phenomenal.
When I first saw the title (and I do not mean any disrespect) was that it was a contradiction of terms.
