Reading a good book would be so much more enjoyable than paying taxes, but I have procrastinated long enough. Today is the day.
I received an email from Matt Wood, the designor/director of the Torrington Mural shown a couple of weeks ago. He tells me that it was a project for an After School Arts Program (ASAP) in Washington Depot, a small town near Torrington. All of the people portrayed in the mural were student artists participating in the project. And, the large "negative head" image is of Polly Doremus, an elderly lady who was active in the area and who co-founded a shelter for battered mothers.
It is always a pleasant surprise to hear from people who come across photos featured here. And, even more, it is always fun to learn about the positive things that people do in their communities. Not everyone is a Scrooge.
Do you have people from Liberty Tax Service standing on street corners wearing Statue of Liberty costumes and carrying big signs? They look so weird.

Any program that involves kids in a positive way has my support? Taxes? You could always get an extension!

A book is better than doing taxes, especially when one reaches the bottom line.
ReplyDeleteThe scrooge character in this billboard looks somewhat like what a tax collector might look like.
I am very pleased not to be involved in the tax preparation process, other than to deliver and pick up the papers from the accountant, and to be a sympathetic ear to listen to Julie as she laments about the amount of time that it takes her to do the paperwork to keep track of everything.

I did mine last week and I"m actually getting a tidy little sum back for the first time. Usually I get just enough to make up for what H & R Block was paid!

The only problem is that good books are rare now...

Well, I guess not many people enjoy doing their taxes! It's easy to procrastinate.

ReplyDeleteI agree - it is always so wonderful to hear from people who've seen a picture on the blog and have something to add to the story! One of my favorite parts of doing a daily photo blog is that I am constantly learning new things about my town.

ReplyDeleteDeath and taxes, Jack. At least the procrastinators get a couple extra days this year. Regarding your pic, reading a book truly can be like exploring a new world. I think J.K. Rowling did more for children and literacy than anyone will ever know.
