This is one of the most visible spots for travelers passing through Hartford. The windows from the building have all disappeared. You can see straight through the building. What a terrible first impression Hartford makes on visitors!
The Connecticut men's basketball team was knocked out of the NCAA tournament last night in a first round game. They fell far behind in the first half and never could climb their way out of the hole they dug. The women's team plays on Saturday. I need to shift my loyalties in the men's tournament over to Ohio State.
First impressions obviously are strong, but obviously are not the best. Wise people withhold their opinions until more information is gathered. At least, that's one hope.

I do remember that post. Too bad about the missing windows here. I hope you will be there with your camera when they take down the building.

ReplyDeleteOh we have far too many of the buildings in B'ham. Some are being renovated but not enough!
ReplyDeleteAs for NCAA basketball, the only year I paid any attention was the year we did a pool and I had 10 bucks in it! Oh and the year Butler was there. We had a fabulous young man from our high school that was a key player, Ronald Nored.

Kansas plays tonight. I hope they won't make any big mistakes, but if they do I'll have to look for a new team to root for as well. :)

Yesterday I saw an ugly ruined building here I haven't noticed before and it must be in such a state for ages! With all I've posted on decay you can bet this one wouldn't cause me a terrible first impression about Hartford. That's for sure! :-)

I certainly do remember that post Jack, lots of funny comments made me laugh as a result of that one. Not so funny this poor old building, but hey, we all have them. You wonder why it happens, guess people move on to bigger and better. Have a great weekend Jack.
ReplyDeleteWe all have things like that - there are a couple of houses like that in our neighbourhood where some developer must be sitting waiting for something. Even though our housing prices are very high and still rising!

ReplyDeleteSadly most towns have unattractive buildings or places that give a poor impression of the place we live. My local annoyance is the freeway from the airport to downtown. The freeway is the oldest in the Bay Area, is elevated so we can see all the ugly industry and train yards, and is bumpy as all get out. Makes me want a tall sound wall, preferably with boston ivy or wild roses. Maybe I should start a movement. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Hartford has a Community Redevelopment Agency to help eradicate such blight. You're right -- it does not make a good first impression. Why, oh why, would you shift your loyalties to OSU when Michigan State is going to take it all?! Come to the green side, Jack! It's not too late.
ReplyDeleteIt always makes me wonder how cities let derelict buildings stay up for such a long time. An empty lot would be better than that. I guess it just takes a future buyer of the site to plop down the money to take the building down.
