Stairwell

OK, I will admit that this is a favorite photo.  Maybe because I liked geometry in high school.  And because I like the bold colors in the wall beyond the stairwell.  They remind me of Frank Stella's minimalist paintings.

This is my last post about the Capitol's interior for now.  I will return later to show some of the important rooms and some statues and exhibitions.

  1. Nice curves, lovely details, rich architecture, great building. Not as old as it seems, but very impressive.

  2. It certainly does look like modern art! Super photo! Geometric pretty well covers it. I didn't mind geometry either, because a certain girl in my class did most of my work. I know, I am shameless! Still!

  3. This shape may make you think of high school geometry class, but it makes me think of a slice of pizza.

  4. Kinda reminds me of cookie cutters! Really though, this is some beautifully detailed architecture.

  5. Loved reading the comments above, and I'm always interested in association. My mind now is blank except that I'm enjoying the appeal of all the different lines and forms...yes, geometry. The only math I really liked!

  7. Ooooh...I love this one too! The "geometry" of it is a perfect analogy. All those lines, angles, arches, and circles. A treat for the eyes.

  12. It's the details as well as the curves that you've caught that do it for me Jack. The star motifs on the staircase, the splash of red, yellow and green and then there's the very elegant little wall sconce under the stairs. Well composed indeed!

  15. I loved geometry and perhaps that influences how I feel about this shot. The composition and different layers of architectural design are great. The color adds to its appeal as well!

  24. You saved the best for last! It's a wonderful shot, filled with interest. Very well done. Much about this building reminds me of the Library of Congress, though the stairway I'm fond of there has an array of cherubs populating it.

  27. So it seems I do have a new perspective to bring to the well deserved praise of this composition! Escher, Escher, Escher! -- intersects with Stella -- and Voila!
