Sunday Morning
Tuesday Morning
We got hit by ten inches of wet snow Saturday night and into Sunday, while the trees still had their leaves. Some hill towns to the west got 18 inches. The weight of the snow cracked trees, and brought power and telephone lines down. Everywhere. The damage is so extensive that there just are not enough crews to get all the work done quickly. It is going to take a while before the trees can be removed from the streets, broken poles replaced, and lines reconnected and energized.
My family is fine. No damage to the house, but no power, heat or internet. We have left until the power returns.
what an adventure. hope you are back in your home soon.
ReplyDeleteThankfully Jack you and your family are safe - what a lot of damage in such a short space of time. I hope you can all return to some semblance of normal life soon.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
I am glad you and your family are fine. Your images say it all.
ReplyDeleteIt is remarkable that the streets are clear enough for you to be able to get out.
ReplyDeleteOn Sunday morning I saw the TV news and told Julie about what you must be going through. She has lived in Arizona her entire life and I had to explain what wet snow on trees with leaves would mean. She had no idea.
I just saw on the news this morning that the high in Hartford today will be 55 and that it the warm weather will continue through the weekend. Look on the bright side. At least the weather will be good where ever you have gone while you are waiting for the power company to repair the lines.
With the temperature warming up, crews should be arriving from all over to help clear the area and re-establish the electricity. Glad your house wasn't damaged. Impressive pics (particularly the top one) -- I knew you'd come through with some good documentation of the storm. Did you consider the Sunshine State as your retreat while waiting it out?
ReplyDeleteOMG! unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are fine but no power...it must be hard.Take care.
There's no such thing as "normalcy" when Ole Man Winter arrives. The season arrived way too soon. You'll be happy when all the damage has been cleared.
ReplyDeleteTHIS was supposed to be the results of "Snowpocolypse" last year, remember? I wonder where all the national media coverage is now? Could it be that it isn't January?
ReplyDeleteWe all know that March storms are big dumpers. But, it's likely been a long time since we saw something like this before Thanksgiving, heck, before Christmas....never in October.
Hope you get back to normal soon, Jack. I can't imagine what we'd be doing if that was here.

We did not get any snow in Duxbury, not very far by the crow fly, but coastal. I am really sorry for those suffering without power, and I know the treacherous jobs the utility crews have. When Irene came through we lost power for three days and that seemed so long. I hope you get back to normal enough soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you have no damage. The whole no power issue is really no fun. We have survived the same. I hope things get back to normal soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear that you and your family are fine! Wow, so much snow in the end of October!
ReplyDeleteWow, this really puts a face on what I've been hearing on the news. It is amazing the amount of damage that can be done when it snows this early in the year. Years ago, when I was doing a lot of traveling for work, I was in Denver for a two weeks in September and one of these storms hit. It was an amazing site to see but, the city lost over 50% ot it's trees because of the broken limbs.
ReplyDeleteWet October snow creates such damage. KC had what we refer to as an "October Surprise" a few years ago the damage was extensive. I hope power is restored soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you are all fine.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that your family is safe! I hope repairs go faster then expected.
ReplyDeleteOh my, it's looking like a long hard winter for you.
ReplyDeleteGlad to read that you're well and safe! it's incredible to see that in october!I hope it's not the promise of a long winter..
ReplyDeleteOuch... We had something like that up north, but here the sun still shines.
ReplyDeleteI hope that soon everything will be back in order.
I'm really sorry about the poor weather. :( I hope you get your electricity up and running soon. I know it must be a hassle having to stay somewhere else while the work is being done. But on the bright side, you got some nice photos!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have somewhere to go with heat!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Glad you're okay, sorry for the folks who aren't.
ReplyDeleteOh ugh! I don't blame you for leaving. This can't be any fun at all and it looks cold!
ReplyDeleteHuiii.... I'm glad to hear you and your family are O.K.
ReplyDeleteBrrrr! Glad you & yours are okay. But oh, what a mess Mother Nature has made! I hope this gets the worst of winter over with. . .and I'd like to imagine you've escaped to somewhere warm and tropical.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear it but happy that your all ok. That first photo makes me chilly.
ReplyDeleteYou are very dedicated - how did you post this? We get more of this kind of thing from sky-busting thunderstorms and the odd tornado.
ReplyDeleteOh wow Jack. I should have lent you my skis...;)
ReplyDeleteWhat is the earliest autumn snow you remember before this event?
ReplyDeleteGosh Jack, this is crazy!! That top picture looks like you're in full on Winter, but surely you can't be yet! Hope you can return home soon and glad all is well with your family, thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteWow, that doesn't look like much fun.
ReplyDeleteGlad that everything is okay with you.Impressive snow!During our trip we saw the news about and I was worried.Mother Nature is sending some message because the weather is crazy in so many places in the world. Please take care.
ReplyDeletehugs

Good grief, what a mess! So glad your home wasn't damaged. Sounds like leaving for a while is a wise decision; it's hard to manage with no power at all.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Hard to believe it's early autumn. Glad to know you and your family are fine.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable. Esp since here we had warmed days than in summer. Hope the area recovers quickly.
