I am heading to Wilbraham/Springfield this morning to help my sister with her storm-damaged house. This photo makes me wonder what may happen to areas in that city that were damaged by the tornado. Lots old mills have been turned into art studio space in Western Mass. The house in your photo could be so pretty if it were restored.
It's so sad to see a once beautiful home decay. We have one of those a few blocks down-- gorgeous leaded glass windows and cupolas, slowly disintegrating.
I do so hate to see lovely, old houses like this disintegrating! Afraid it will take more than a neighborhood watch to save this one, but hopefully it will do the job for the people in the area. Great post as always, Jack.
I agree. We had some break-ins here in my neighborhood and the neighbors went right to work. Now this place looks like a haven for undesirables! Right? V
At first I thought you were being sardonic. Then I saw the tv dish and realized that people still live in the neighborhood. Too bad they don't have the financial resources to renovate. But happily, they have the social resources to join together to watch out for one another.
Someone forgot to watch this place ... or they watched it deteriorate ... probably was a lovely building at one time. Sad.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, not so nice, it's a pity!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday

A little bit of TLC and it'll come up good as new!!

ReplyDeleteValiant attempt!
ReplyDeleteWow - if that isn't "urban decay" then what is?!
ReplyDeleteLove your treatment of this photo. Lots of lovely texture
ReplyDeleteI like this. It kind of portrays the state in which our society lies- doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteAn irony of sorts....
A beautiful old house waiting to be gentrified!
ReplyDeleteBless this old house's heart.
ReplyDeleteHopefully someone will have dreams of restoring this old house and keep a watch out for the neighbors.
ReplyDeleteThe sign looks new. Perhaps the Blockwatch should have started sooner. Btw, I don't think anyone wants me biking to work in this heat and humidity.

Vigorously nodding my head in agreement with all the comments above.
ReplyDeleteThat could be such a beautiful house.
ReplyDeleteI so like these types of photos. 'Broken Windows' is really excellent.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully ironic post.
ReplyDeleteIf only they renovated the place a little it could be a paradise - safe and pretty:)
ReplyDeleteThe decayed house together with the sign make a fantastic combination. It's a great composition and I love it.
ReplyDeleteDid someone forget to do his job?..poor old house!
ReplyDeleteHopefully someone will fix it up> I see the satellite dish is still installed!

ReplyDeleteSomeone allergic to paint?
ReplyDeleteBet it was quite alluring in its day
ReplyDeleteI think that this place sorely needs renovation!
ReplyDeleteNICE catch, Jack! :))
ReplyDeleteThat's a really subtle, but powerful, shot, Jack. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some renovation has started there. Protection needed?!
