The annual garden I will be showing you this year has now been replanted and most of the beds have also been mulched. They are ready for summer. I will show the garden later, when the blooms are more mature.
These beds are planted and tended by one man. For decades he worked for the City of Hartford and was the foreman of a crew that tended the garden. With budget cuts, the paid workers are gone. This man retired ten years ago and ever since has been watching over the garden as a volunteer.
BONUS PICTURE: The arches in the rose garden are now in full bloom.
A beautiful garden and I am always partial to blooming arches!
ReplyDeleteThis gardener really made a good work!
ReplyDeleteOh those arches are too divine Jack, bet they smell like a dream. Can't wait to see the rest when it's grown a bit.
ReplyDeleteFor that volunteer worker it is surely a labor of love for nature and the enjoyment of many. Keep posting these photos as I am interesting in the progress.
ReplyDeleteLove the rose arch and I wondered how many brides walked under these blooms... better hurry

ONE VOLUNTEER?! Wow, he must love it - what a wonderful job he does. I don't suppose he knows he gives pleasure to someone in the UK but, through your photos, he does.
ReplyDeleteMay this gardener find joy in every thing he does. He gives so much joy to others.
ReplyDeleteKudos for the tireless work of the volunteer. He deserves a medal, at the very least.
ReplyDeleteThe arch would be a perfect place for a wedding.
He did a brilliant job, absolutely brilliant. This is the perfect setting for letting one's soul dangle (German: die Seele baumeln lassen).
ReplyDeleteP.S.: I know you weren't born yesterday which is why you have to believe me when I say that doorway is in V. As a matter of fact, a person from Tucson, AZ. can attest it! :-)
This gardener has certainly a place waiting for him in paradise, as he offered us paradise on earth..
ReplyDeleteYou have the most beautiful gardens in your city. I just love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific volunteer worker and such a gorgeous garden! Definitely has to be a labor of love! Those arches are breathtaking! Superb captures as always, Jack! Enjoy your day!
