This is a portrait of a sidewheeler. But, what really caught my attention is how well the bench echoes the geometry of the sidewheeler.
The New Britain Museum of American Art commissioned a couple dozen benches from artist-craftsmen, to complement the artwork and to be art themselves. I think they are very successful. In time I will show a few more.
I'm going to venture a guess and say the placement of that painting in the sightline of that bench was no accident.
ReplyDeleteThat bench would be a good candidate for the meme "bunch of benches." It is beautiful as is the placement of the paintings that you have shown us today as well as in former posts. Have a good week-end!
ReplyDeleteA bench masterfully placed! I'll take it gladly for aBoB!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great photo and yes the bench is beautiful and well placed.
ReplyDeleteVery much appealing to the eye. Love the craftsmanship on that bench.
ReplyDeleteGreat placement of a bench worthy of a museum. If there were a star instead of the sun, it would echo the Arizona State Flag.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Tromp L'Oeil painting in the back left. Perhaps a Harnett or Pelo.
The building you posted yesterday and today has a design feature that provides 5 corner offices on the one side that you showed, and at least 7 corner offices per floor, even if all the other sides are flat. Must have been designed with the goal of renting space to law firms.
Thank you for your comment yesterday about the quote from Julie in the WSJ. She and I brought the case that the Supreme Court decided (adversely) on Thursday. NPR used segments from an interview with Julie during the last couple of days as well.
Heck! That bench is more masterful then the painting... and the way the light falls? Amazing!
ReplyDeleteLovely bench and matches th picture perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI like the perspective in this photo.
What a wonderful idea to commission the benches from artist-craftsmen. A superb way to compliment the art works.
ReplyDeleteThe place , the bench and the painting match so well together and magnify each other!
ReplyDeleteBeing a bench addict, I'd be proud to present it on my benches blog. Would you accept me to link to your blog?..
The bench definitely adds a nice touch!
ReplyDeleteI do love the bench! What a perfect touch! That is awesome building! Thanks for letting us see the whole thing! Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend, Jack! Enjoy!

The bench is the most striking thing in that wonderful room! Well done.
ReplyDeleteThe bench caught my eye too - made me think of a rising sun. Nice piece of woodwork. You are so clever to spot the "echo" of the sidewheeler - a photographer's knack.
ReplyDeleteRE furniture shopping couple...yes, all of us in So Cal are that good looking (hee-hee).
When I saw that bench I thought about Malyss and her love for benches. It is perfectly paired with the painting and I heartily approved the executive decision to commission "benches" for the art gallery!
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
Great idea - and a lovely piece of craftsmanship. I'd never heard of a 'sidewheeler' - I learn something everyday from blogging.
ReplyDeleteDitto. Never heard of a 'sidewheeler' either. The bench is magnificent.
ReplyDeleteThe story about your barber is truly fascinating. Can't imagine such a thing. And I can't find a good one anywhere in Ocala.
ReplyDeleteBut...actually...I thought K told me you went to a hair stylist. Heh, heh! Just kidding. She didn't say that!
Love that bench and the whole idea behind it! And yes, I was wondering about yesterday's photo so thanks for showing the whole thing. Quite impressive!
What a wonderful idea. I would love to see some of the other art benches. Thanks for showing a full shot of yesterday's reflection photo, definitely a beautiful work of architecture.
ReplyDeleteYour picture with the bench is outstanding.Oh I'm envious here, I would love visiting there! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
Léia
As I told you before, I loved this museum series. All shots are great.
ReplyDeleteI agee that the bench goes very well with the painting of the sidewheeler.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing and creative idea to commission benches to reflect artwork. I wonder who thought it up.
ReplyDeleteIt was the bench that first caught my attention! Looking forward to seeing the others.
