Lacrosse is a sport derived from the American Indians, using a hand-held webbed stick and a hard rubber ball. For those unfamiliar with the sport, here is a Wikipedia link. Most lacrosse is played on the East Coast -- New England, Long Island and Maryland are big areas -- and Canada.
Lacrosse is much more popular back East. I have never seen anyone playing lacrosse in Arizona.

Love all the colors in this shot. Lacrosse seems to be gaining in popularity here. Lately, I've seen signs advertising for a league and even a student walking down the street with a stick over his shoulder.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. LAX is getting more and more popular. I've only recently picked up a stick but I'm no good. I did have to do a double take. I went to college at University of Maine at Farmington, and we were the same colors as your Farmington.
ReplyDeleteMy nephew played lacrosse in high school, but he lives in Maryland. There is a college lacrosse team here at FSU, but I have never been. Maybe I should check it out!

It's a game I associate with smart girls' boarding schools in books. I don't know whether they still play it here.

My eldest daughter played lacrosse when we lived in Pennsylvania...but I don't think lacrosse is part of our culture in Florida! Nice shot with great colors, though.
ReplyDeletePlayed the last two days; not too smart. Didn't play very well and must have twisted my knee. So, I'm planning on watching the Master's for the rest of the week and on Sunday. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

ReplyDeleteThe Twin Cities have a rather large number of high schools with Lacrosse teams, which I think is terrific. I looked up the name on the red shirt, as mentioned by Malyss, but the French to English translation merely said "secrets" so obviously there is a slang express that is probably quite naughty. Will have to ask my French-speaking friends for a translation.
