It is time to pick out your high school's team shirt and get a lacrosse stick. The boys' and girls' high school lacrosse seasons start tomorrow.
Lacrosse is a sport derived from the American Indians, using a hand-held webbed stick and a hard rubber ball. For those unfamiliar with the sport, here is a Wikipedia link. Most lacrosse is played on the East Coast -- New England, Long Island and Maryland are big areas -- and Canada.
Lacrosse is much more popular back East. I have never seen anyone playing lacrosse in Arizona.
ReplyDeleteI'll take the Farmington t-shirt. Just because I like red! :)
ReplyDeletehaha! the red shirt has a name which is a very great insult in french slang!! :o)
ReplyDeletean other unknown sport in France..
A sport we don't see here in the southwest (except on TV from time to time).
ReplyDeleteWe don't see Lacrosse here in Seattle either, but what a great and colorful capture/post for the day! Hope you have a great weekend, Jack!

Love all the colors in this shot. Lacrosse seems to be gaining in popularity here. Lately, I've seen signs advertising for a league and even a student walking down the street with a stick over his shoulder.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. LAX is getting more and more popular. I've only recently picked up a stick but I'm no good. I did have to do a double take. I went to college at University of Maine at Farmington, and we were the same colors as your Farmington.
ReplyDeleteMy nephew played lacrosse in high school, but he lives in Maryland. There is a college lacrosse team here at FSU, but I have never been. Maybe I should check it out!
ReplyDeleteOne learns whole life - I haven't heard about Lacrosse so far:)
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty popular here in Toronto - we have a team in the pro league.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the one game I saw in Connecticut! :-)
ReplyDeleteRe. hats: weddings and some upscale parties and horseraces...
I've never heard something about Lacrosse, it's totally new for me. Thanks for information.
ReplyDeleteThat's totally unknown to me and then I learn again something new... :)
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!

It's a game I associate with smart girls' boarding schools in books. I don't know whether they still play it here.
ReplyDeleteOur Eagan Rotary youth exchange student from Brazil mentioned at our meeting yesterday that he just joined the JV Lacrosse team at Eagan High School!
ReplyDeleteAs a native of "America's Dairyland," I think of the city of Lacrosse, Wisconsin....
Not much lacrosse played down here, but I've seen a few groups out practicing.

My eldest daughter played lacrosse when we lived in Pennsylvania...but I don't think lacrosse is part of our culture in Florida! Nice shot with great colors, though.
ReplyDeletePlayed the last two days; not too smart. Didn't play very well and must have twisted my knee. So, I'm planning on watching the Master's for the rest of the week and on Sunday. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!
I know next to nothing about Lacrosse, I'll check out the link. They look like upside down bicycle seats attached to sticks.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun... I have heard of Lacrosse but have never seen it played.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Picture!
ReplyDeleteThat is a colorful photo. I would love to see a game in person.
ReplyDeleteMy nephews and nieces in PA all play lacrosse, but we do not see that on the Gulf Coast.

Very colorful uniforms. So what's your favorite team?
ReplyDeleteThe Twin Cities have a rather large number of high schools with Lacrosse teams, which I think is terrific. I looked up the name on the red shirt, as mentioned by Malyss, but the French to English translation merely said "secrets" so obviously there is a slang express that is probably quite naughty. Will have to ask my French-speaking friends for a translation.
ReplyDeleteA Super Sport here!!!! My nephew plays. I can't even imagine how ecstatic I would be if I could even catch the ball;)
ReplyDeleteI'd like to, but I am quite unfamiliar, like many here, with lacrosse as sport! Thanks for the link, I'll try to amend my ignorance...
