Elizabeth Park's rose gardens are the oldest municipal rose gardens in the country.
They are gloriously colorful and fragrant in June and July. In fact, my first post on this blog in July 2010 was from the rose garden.
But, I visited the rose garden in late December, the day after the blizzard, and they had a certain quiet beauty even then.
A photo of the arches and gazebo in the summer is here.
The arches are lovely even this time of year. I like that the path is generously wide.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely, even with the snow.
ReplyDeleteSuch a magic gazebo, something from movies sceneries, really beautiful!

How different it looks now. The arches remind me of a Monet painting that we have at the Phoenix Art Museum.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful winter scene.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family love, joy and continued good health in 2012. Thanks for being my virtual friend. :)
I would love to walk under this archway....even in the winter.
ReplyDeleteAnother magical pathway.
Winter doesn't steal the beauty...it adds to it.
I really like this shot. Eerily beautiful. I think our first blog posts are the ones that inspire us the most.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like the new title banner (it is new, right? I hope I'm not just noticing it!).
Interesting seeing it in winter vs. summer. Those roses are beautiful. Looks like a lovely place for a stroll. Btw, I did get a plug in for SDP on the air last night. The marketing arm of the SDP team was quite pleased.

I still remember my first posts either, it's always interesting to compare a place with itself some time later...
ReplyDeletei read another post or a magazine article that recommended revisting places many time to capture the different looks, you have accomplished that here
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place in the summer! It is interesting to see it in a different time of year. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteI really like what you have done here. Photographed out of season makes for some interesting perspective.
ReplyDeleteNice shot and the Summer photo is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI bet that's a place that's good to go to no matter the season (especially on photo hunts!).
ReplyDeleteThree beautiful photos, thanks to your links. Thanks, Jack. I agree with Sequim Daily Photo's comment about how it reminds her/him of the Rose Garden here in Portland.
ReplyDeletePlease stop by on Thursday, after midnight on Wednesday even, at Portland Oregon Daily Photo to see my first ever embedded video. It shows my younger son Leland bouldering at The Circuit in Portland, Oregon, as filmed by his older brother Lamont, who also boulders.
Are these rose arches originally an English garden form? Just seems like it ought to be at some castle somewhere in England. Classic form in the winter snow. Very elegant.
ReplyDeleteLove to see it again in the summer time
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at this picture and then clicking on the summer one and seeing the difference.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a lot of weddings would happen there. If I was going to get married there, I'd choose the winter setting.
Quite a different from the summer version. Always nice to return to a favorite spot.
