The Artist at Work

John and his customer let me take photographs while John worked on a tattoo on his customer's leg. He wanted viewers to know that the red is dye, not blood.

Getting a tattoo looks like a painful process. How kind that John and his client agreed to let you photograph this.

Ha ha. Good to know. I should do a similar portrait as I have met one or two tattooists over the years.

and an excellent self-portrait, too.

You set this whole scene up beautifully: I see three distinct scenes--the foreground with the tattoo artist, the middle section with his work on the customer, and the background featuring none other than Jack! Terrific!

What a great shot Jack! I could never get a tattoo though. It makes me queasy just thinking about it!

Fascinating and somewhat creepy profession. Great photo!

Great shot, but like Lois, I could never get a tattoo -- too chicken!! I did hope my kids wouldn't get them, but I knew if I protested, they'd be sure to do it back in those "teen-age" years! But I didn't and neither did they!! Oh, hey, great portrait of you as well, Jack!

Nice shot! I loved noticing your reflection in the background.

Tattoos aren't that painful - certainly not comfortable, but not unbearable.

Oh my, what a fabulous reflection with you there!

Great scene, great reflection, great self-portrait, you have it all in one shot. Well done, Jack!

Nice composition. Who's the funny old guy with the camera in the window? Oh, wait. I think I know him. He usually mirrors his intentions. So did you get a tattoo?

I'd probably pass out just watching!

That is way cool. I've never been in a tattoo parlor. I'll never be in a tattoo parlor. They horrify me, although my kids are full of them. Now I know what the procedure looks like.

I don't understand why people get tattoos, but to each his own. Did you get a shot of the final work?

The title should be: The Artists at Work. Great shot, Jack.
