Took the family into Manhattan through Grand Central Station. What a gorgeous place!
Outside, the marvelous Art Deco Chrysler Building peeked over a modern building to catch a glance of the Tiffany clock and the Hercules, Minerva and Mercury statues at the top of Grand Central's facade.
Classic NYC locations. It is no wonder that many movies have used this location. Train travel was critical in the 19th and 20th Centuries.
ReplyDeleteExcellent architecture.
ReplyDeleteOnly time I was in it very often was circa 1970. The ceiling was not that lovely color. I just looked it up, and the ceiling was cleaned in the 90's, having been faded by years and years and years of cigarette smoke. There's a famous old photo of it with rays of light coming down on the traveler's. Now it's dawned on me that was due to smoke in the air!!!
ReplyDeleteOf course I didn't notice that at the time. It was everywhere.
