So long as I was in Punta Gorda to see "Caribbean Colors" at Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Gardens, I drove around the waterfront area to see some of the city's noted murals.
"Marion Avenue Cattle Drive" is a 2007 mural by Michael Vires, covering one complete side of a law firm's commercial building.
The mural honors "cracker cattle," a breed of cattle brought to Florida by the Spanish 500 years ago and still a dominant strain of cattle raised in Florida cattle ranches.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fine looking mural honoring the Florida cattle industry. I'm not familiar with this breed of cattle.
ReplyDeleteDifferent type of cattle drive than the ones that went from Texas to Kansas in the late 19th century. Really a lovely mural and a great look at the history of cattle drives in FL.
ReplyDeleteJack - it's fascinating how I don't see the windows until I really look for them. Talented artist, to be sure. I also think it is interesting how the edges of the mural are done in black and white. Joining you from Monday Murals.
